When Dick Baird calls out Asa and Cam along with Eklund saying Asa looks lost out there, you know that is a major major red flag problem at safety.
We know no why Alex Cook is starting at safety

You play those players because you need talent and turnovers.
Rapp played like a senior almost immediately which is a pretty high expectation of every 4* safety we get though.

Yeah there’s a problem, they’ve whiffed on a shit load of safeties in recruiting and they’ve also recruited a shit load of corners who should play safety but either suck at it or don’t want to play it. Hampton and Irvin should be competing for those safety spots. Instead they’re standing on the sidelines all game.
I thought Will Harris said Irvin was “going to be special for us this season playing all over the field”. So where the fuck is he? He got torched playing nickel against Arizona and hasn’t been seen since.
And can McKinney possibly be worse than Asa? At least he’s not afraid to hit people and stop them in their tracks.
It’s frustrating. We don’t need these safeties to be all-world. Just decent.

Correct on Dom and Irvin.
And I think it would behoove Jimmy and his staff not to talk up multiple kids in spring/fall camp as all world, then come the season we never see them.
Rome Odunze should have seen the field much more than he has especially last week at Utah. That was criminal. He appears to be shovel ready right now.

Participant12/06/2020 at 7:18 am #21323If you are going to play a 5 man secondary one of those 5 better be a rover-thumper type to help out the run defense. We have no one like that. I’m assuming Turner was supposed to be that guy but just isn’t.

Participant12/07/2020 at 7:20 am #21342I have my hopes that Jacobe Covington is ready to thump next year.
Alex Cook’s season has been tragic. Jimmy was like “he just does it in practice”
and a bunch of articles come out about Cook and 4 games in he’s done nothing.I’m ready to move on. If the Safeties didn’t get the memo with Cam Williams not making
the starting group their REALLY going to get the memo this offseason that the Safety positions
are WIDE OPEN. I don’t think Asa’s spot is safe either.I’m gonna be looking for what Esteen does in the offseason to get stronger and better. I’m gonna be looking for Meki Pei to make a move. I’m looking for Covington to start showing dominance

Participant12/07/2020 at 1:11 pm #21347Kyler Gordon is now ahead of Alex Cook on the safety depth chart as the starting FS. He’s got the speed to cover sideline to sideline as a single high safety which could allow them to drop Asa in the box more. Glad to see them make a change because what we’ve seen from the safeties just isn’t good enough. But now I wonder if Gordon should’ve been the starting FS the whole season instead of a back up corner and if Dom Hampton would be better at SS than Asa.

Participant12/07/2020 at 2:43 pm #21354Alex Cook your first “Suddenly Seniored” candidate.
It would be one thing if we saw Cook flying in and just missing things but I saw no effort or urgency and Jimmy put his neck out there about Cook being the model for coming to practice and doing the work.
I’m my very limited experience that’s just not absolutely true. I played with kids in sports that looked great in practice but never could settle down and shine against opponents.
