I’m not focused on what I think new recruits or Redshirts are going to do this season. This is a list of players I think may show improvement this season after actually seeing the field.
Kyler Gordon – Gordon is a guy to me that has crazy athleticism and just needs to master the technique. McDuffie is a kid that had the technique down from the beginning which is why he stole reps. I look for a solid season from Gordon after another solid Spring/Summer Camp.
Cade Otton – Doesn’t really block well but man he can catch the ball. Otton may end up having less drops than Bryant. I don’t expect crazy catches but a tick better in reliability on 3rd downs is my expectation.
Eddie Ulofoshio – Fa’sho already rushes the line well. He knows how to apply pressure on the QB. Where’s Eddie’s going to improve the most is dropping back in coverage and getting that feel for how to shut the middle of the field down.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui– now this a guy that didn’t get a whole lot of reps but I liked way he was moving in the Boise game. He seemed to be playing faster, more confident and letting his physicality come through. I’m gonna keep my eye on him because he could be making a move.
Dick Newton – Expect huge improvement from Newton. I’m willing to bet he hits Summer Camp at 220lbs or more. I think Jimmy has to been clear about wanting to run the ball down peoples throats. We don’t need the home run hitter we need the consistent 4 yard minimum runs. Newton is that guy that just needs to grind out those yards falling forward. A little more weight will help and more strength.
Sean McGrew – Not only is he a solid option at RB but I think McGrew should be fielding punts as well as kickoffs this season. He’s probably our best option for boosting our special teams
Cam Williams – Does everything you ask of him. Minimized mistakes the 2nd half of the year. Will be more physically ready this season. Great player.
