No thanks to Coker, this is finally a reality. In this episode we discuss everyone in our class, Clay Helton and we get stupid drunk. Well, at least me and Teq do.

A TSIO pod is NEVER too long. Period.

My liver disagrees
I, too, like to compare our coaches to fascist dictators.

I view it as a holiday tradition.
IMO no TSIO pod should be less then 3 hours. IDGAF if you go long on Carson Bruener, I’ll listen to it.
Where else are you going to go for Carson Bruener hot talk?
Only into it 45 minutes and here’s my takeaways so far:
The idea you can go any position (let alone DL) recruiting 0 guys in a class is beyond stupefying. To do it 2ce in 4 years???? That’s like flunking basic math 75 in college. How can there no one on staff that is looking at Roster Management 101 and not realizing this is a disaster.
When I think of Bruener and Cooper all I see are guys 10 lbs lighter than Ngata. I am going to go out on a limb here, but I doubt the top 10-15 programs are recruiting guys at that position (ILB) coming out of HS at 200 and 210 lbs.
Can’t argue with that at all. It’s a big concern, we need Carson to get that weight on and then hope he is ready as a RS soph. It’s a gamble, but I see the talent there for sure. Sadly it’s on the reasons we need to move on from Gregory, I just don’t think he can move the needle in recruiting enough to get those guys that the elite programs are going after all the time.

I think ultimately with Carson it’s fine. But you just don’t want a ton of those guys.
For me, I think I’d *REALISTICALLY* like
5 top 100 players (yes it’s realistic)
10 other 4-star types (yes, it’s realistic)
5 physically rare 3-star types
2-3 kids like Carson who have great ability, but aren’t there size-wise.
And out of this I would like 8-10 kids every year in-state. Peacock, Utschinsky, Beresford, Evan Weaver, etc.
I think we should always let ties go to in-state guys while maintaining the overall structure I was just talking about.

Gregory on recruiting alone should have been out of here 2 years ago. Come on Jimmy, you know what needs to be done. Listen to your head not heart.
I am concerned about Carson and his weight simply b/c if anyone should know (and has the resources needed to make the development happen physically) what he needs to do to get ready at the next level is his dad Mark. I’m sure he’s already been doing the private lessons, but my assumption is he is also been on a nutrition/diet plan for at least the last year and so far it doesn’t appear to have helped put on the weight needed.
I love the DDY 12 point system and we just went from playing two guys at ILB that played a large part in not even being able to win the North, to taking 2 guys who if EVERYTHING goes right and they hit 110% of their maximum ceiling, can get to a NY6 bowl where we will watch a repeat of Bama/Penn State/Ohio State again.
After watching the Ohio State/Clemson backers last night, I realize they are the measuring stick and what we are chasing, but we look like were playing go-fish and them Bridge when it comes to recruiting.

Carson would have been great as our third take behind Bothello and Herbig. I think he will grow, but it’s definitely a risk.
Your class makeup is perfect, and reflects the 19 class pretty close minus Ngata and Charbonnet like you mentioned. Those two would have made that class just about perfect.
HAVE to get it done in 21. It is the best opportunity we will have to get a top five class for probably another several decades. All national champions have had at least one top ten class and have averaged out to top ten over 3 or 4 years. THIS IS OUR FUCKING CHANCE! Get it done this year, Jimmy, or all this was for nothing.
Update: So after listening to our complete D class this year here’s what I heard:
DL: so far F- (happens when you take ZERO)
ILB: C for a Pac-12 school (F versus any national school we are chasing)
DB: D (per Dennis)
OLB: A
At least I will know where the genesis was of Lake blowing out Coach K and taking over the D playcalling duties in 4 years.
