Looks like Coach K is going to be the DC, I want to know if Lake will be calling the defense or not, that’s a big question for the press conference tomorrow.
K staying is MASSIVE MASSIVE MASSIVE!
Go get Gerald Alexander ASAP!

Think a part of Pete stepping away is he didn’t want to have to fire Gregory and Bush as well. Not saying that’s the reason but it’s one of many. He’s known those two for over 20 years now.
With Lake as HC I’d prefer he manage the game and have Kwit call plays again on defense which should help us as well.
Also saving some money that we can spend elsewhere on staff. Pete made around 4.5, Lake is making 3.
Coaches I would definitely keep:
Coach K (thank god)
Malloe
Coaches who I would rather stick around:
Huff – he has an ELITE recruiting class I would like to sign with us. I also think he is an above average coach, but needs to prove it once his recruits take over the line.
Adams – Also has an elite class committed right now. I think he was hamstrung by Pete’s awful offense and the jags already on the roster.
Would rather see go but mostly indifferent:
Boner – I want to see him gone, but wouldn’t be calling for the demolition of Husky Stadium if he stayed.
Harris – If he can stay on staff with Gerald Alexander that’s fine, but GA HAS to be the priority.
GTFO NOW!
Gregory – JFC how is this guy still here?!
Hamden – Sorry Bush, I think you are capable of more, but Pete has ruined you and we need a completely new system.
Paopao – No way he sticks around right? …Right?!
I had the same thought about not having to fire Gregory and Bush contributing to the decision.
My pass at a great staff
OC/QB – Joe Brady/Mike LaFleur
RB – Ron Gould
WR – Junior
TE – John Baxter/Tui?
OL – Scott “Ride the Lightning” Huff
DC/Bucks Coach K (for as long as he wants the job)
DL – Ikaika
LB – Gerald Alexander
DB – Will Harris
I have one main priority: GET GERALD.
I want Gerald as Co-DC/DB coach. $550k year. Right now he makes 200k.
Having Gerald recruit for Jimmy – I literally cannot imagine it.
Position by position…
OFFENSE
All I want to see here is an OC picked that is innovative and good. I think Jimmy will pick a guy who he feels would be hard for him to defend against. Then you have to let that guy pick his coaches.
That said, I’m going to put the offensive coaches in order from the one I would least expect to go, to the one I would most expect to go:
Junior (knows Jimmy, great recruiter, well regarded)
Huff (recruiting has been great, my understanding is that the offense itself has created a lot of issues for our OL)
Moobs (I think he’s probably gone, but I don’t know)
Pao (Same as Moobs, but more confident)
Bush (just not a real role for him)
I would be surprised if Junior or Huff are GONEZO, I would not be surprised about anyone else.
DEFENSE
Coach K staying was obvious to me. I didn’t understand worries about that. Obviously he’d stay.
Ikaika is great at coaching and recruiting. I think that’s a good combo. Let’s keep him.
Everyone else is tricky.
I love Will personally and I doubt Jimmy would can him. I think he could get moved into a S coach kind of role. I don’t see him as a key piece, honestly.
Bobby Greggy – Jimmy has worked with him forever. I would be pretty surprised if he were shitcanned, but like all things, it’s probabilistic…
I think it’s about 40% likely he gets fired.
Ultimately – I think Jimmy’s going to need to replace himself on D and get a New OC and that’s another reason I feel like Bob may get another chance. Jimmy’s got a lot to do and not a lot of experience with putting a staff together.
All this speculation has probably lit a fire under Cal’s ass to get GA a raise. I agree though he would be a damn good hire.
I can’t wait to see what he does on offense though. Lake says he plans on being more aggressive (F Yeah). Hopefully he makes a splash hire @ OC. Just please not someone from the air raid coaching tree.
Cal might have a fire under their ass to raise GA, but you have to understand, unless they can pay him TRIPLE what they are paying him now, it’s not going to be what we can do.
During the press conference this morning Jimmy Lake was asked (by Softy) about changes on the offensive coaching staff. Lake made (what I interpreted as) an ominous comment. “All of those decisions will be made after the season.”
By the way, kudos to Softy for asking a bare-knuckled question. Not the typical, “how-does-it-feel-to-be-the-head-coach” fluffy softball.
I am really pleased to see Jimmy keeping the O-staff through signing day. Get these fucking kids signed. It is our best offensive class EVER, even WITH Mason West. Shoutout to Mason West.
So, that is important. Get these kids signed. Then get a good OC who will impress the kids. Keep Junior (Jalen and Rome), keep Huff (Murao, Rosengarten, GAARD, Hatchett and Peacock–who, to be fair–wouldn’t leave if we hired a used fry vat from Hardee’s) and then let the chips fall where they may.
Garbers and Redman are locked in IMO. I think a good QB and TE coach will keep them easily. They both wanted to go to UW. Redman and Jimmy Lake’s vibe is the same.
The only reason Sam Adams DIDN’T COMMIT TO US EARLY was KB. So, I’m hoping and praying on that one. Sunday – I mean, whatever. What’s he going to do, go to Arkansas?
I was stoked to hear Jimmy was up in Ferndale last night with Huff. Makes me feel confident Huff sticks around, and since the OL recruits are all so close, getting the local kid bought into the change should make a big difference.
As Dennis said, my main target is Gerald Alexander if I am Jimmy Lake right now. I think he can help us elevate; he is not only a great coach, but he connects to the players well and he knows the culture here. It’s like a dream scenario. You get him up here and have him coach wherever he wants.
Jimmy has big ties to Beau Baldwin, and I know he has NFL connections too. It will be fascinating to see what he does with OC since he is a first time head coach. My worry is someone won’t want to tie up with him. The good thing working for Jimmy is that he has been a lot of places and knows a lot of coaches, so it might be a bit easier for him then say some coordinator that has only had a few jobs before.
Lake and Huff were in Ferndale? Good.
Have they visited Smalls?
It is more likely that Chris Petersen is actually a bug person from planet Xenar who will eventually reveal himself and subjugate the human race than it is for Sav’ell to decommit.
Re: Baldwin – I know they don’t have a lot of talent on that side of the ball, but the Cal offense under Beau has been… yeesh

When Garbers has played they’ve been really good, tbh.
To DDY point about Lake. I remember an announcer saying when Lake goes to NFL camps or coaching clinics he sits in on offensive meetings to get a better grasp of how to run his defense. So as a coach look for him to pick an offense that he sort of fears. Fact he shutout Jonathan Smith’s Chis Petersen led offense is an indication he won’t be running our offense. He likely doesn’t have respect for the Air Raid as he knows how to shut them down(shut down USC and WSU).

How dare you slander the great Jonathan Smith?!?!

I forgot he’s the reason why Petersen was even good.

Great post.
@GoDawgs91 You always seem to bring up a random yet very important detail from years back.
