No I’m not comparing Petersen to Sark you morons!!!!
In both cases the coach had enough success that their job was safe no matter how stagnant the program became. Sark was Sark and no amount of time was ever going to make him a “program builder” type of guy. Pete on the other hand at least talked the talk of being willing to shake things up on his staff to keep things moving forward… who knows if it actually would have happened this offseason.
I just feel like, in both cases, the current coaches departure opened the door for greater opportunity that otherwise would have take years to happen or never happened at all.
The current situation couldn’t be better. We retain Kwat, arguably the most important coach on the staff and keep Pete around the program to help ease the transition and guide Lake as he gets his feet wet as a head coach. Lake gets to install badly needed fresh blood and bring some energy to a program that has a solid base but feels stagnant. There’s plenty of talent on the roster.
