Home field helps teams play better defense.
In that respect it helps offenses going on the road.
I think it helps us because we already will have a very good defense, but our offense won’t have crowd worries at Oregon, Utah, Cal, USC.

I have a weird feeling that the offense is going to look much better this year and we will actually be more disappointed in the defense because an injury to Tryon or Levi severely hurts us and our expectations are so high to begin with on that side. Our db’s had some bad games last year too giving up clutch completions to Stanford, Utah, and Cal which is inexcusable.
Petersen’s offense was shit not just because of the complexity, but because they called plays to dink and dunk east west and force it constantly just to use the width of the field under a naive assumption it would just naturally open up the deep middle of the field. I’m really confident that mentality is gone along with Pete and Bush.
Sirmon doesn’t have Gaskin but he has a lot of talent at receiver and they will have experience from the last 3rd of the year.
I think they come out scoring a lot of touchdowns. Redzone could still be a problem though.
I know I’m in the minority here and I loved the 2015 Oregon atmosphere and 2016 Stanford atmosphere, but there is something to be said for neutralish stadiums of small numbers of fans on both sides.
The 2018 Pac 12 championship game is made fun of for the score and the location/attendance, but walking around San Jose and being at the game the fans that were there on both sides were the die hards. No fluffy stupid groups that scored tickets from their companies, only the people that really give a shit. Sports bars near the Shark Tank played replays of every UW/UU game since 2011 and the anxiety from both sides there was palpable.
It would be surreal and awesome to be at Autzen at 20% capacity this year and see Jimmy go 1-0. Same with SC.

RB worries me too seeing as Newton and McGrew are so specialized. There’s hype around Davis but he wasn’t on the field enough last year to assume he’s going to all the sudden be an upper echelon back.
Otton is a very good player overall, but yeah this thing hinges on the OL being a strength and not imploding. If they are actually be serviceable in pb and we throw intermediate/deep to set up the run I have no doubts the offense is going to flip conference positions because the receiver talent has been a labor of love recruiting-wise and needs to be ridden at this point.
I agree home crowds typically help the defense.Thus a team like Washington implementing a new offense with a young QB will help Washington on the road. I’m excited about the Defense it’s stacked. As for an injury to Tryon would hurt but I expect a big jump from Latu. I’m just happy it looks like we are moving toward a season.
