Should Jen Cohen be fired?

As athletic director she will be responsible for the two worst seasons in mens basketball history with two different coaching staffs. She inherited a final four women’s team who is now the laughing stock of the conference three years in a row. She also covered up sexual assault.

Football hire was a lazy hire and the staff changes were lazy as well. Keeping KB and Gregory who are both dead weight coaches isn’t good.

For football I get we all love Lake but you have to at least make a Justin Wilcox say no.

If Lake is a bust then she’s door ass out. The basketball programs are a dumpster fire and changes need to be made. Hop probably has another year to prove himself but Wynn is done.

Do we have faith in Cohen to fire Hop and hire a successful replacement though? Do we have faith she can hire a successful woman’s coach? After a final four trip the best she could do was Wynn. So likely the next coach will be even worse resume.

She is completely in over her head and she hired a coach who sexually assaulted a female student athlete. Then tried to cover up and later on plead ignorance. Cohen is incompetent but also a terrible human being.

I think you’re getting a little too extreme there. Have you been listening to @Chest’s podcast too much? Agree she totally botched the Wynn hire. If I actually cared about UWWBB I’d be up in the arms on the state of the program. The Hopkins’ hire looked good for about 2.5 seasons until the wheels came off after the Quade suspension. I’m personally not a big Hop fan but he’s done enough to earn a 4th year (although if he loses out then he should get fired). We’re still wait and see on Lake. I wouldn’t pin the assistant hires on Cohen, those were totally Lake’s decision.

The Hop hire was a questionable hire at hte time. He was 4-5 as an interim HC on a team that went to the final four that season. Oregon State and USC both passed on him. So this notion that it was a universally accepted great hire is just bullshit.

UW basketball is going to go 2-16 for only the second time in program history. Both times in the Cohen era. UW is also going to lose their two leading scorers and rebounders while bringing in ZERO recruits. The team will be terrible again next year.

I think bringing in a new AD definitely deserves discussion, but there is no way this happens anytime soon, for the same reason Oregon is outworking us. Our administration does not give a fuck.

UW is going to go 2-16 in basketball, bring in zero recruits, lose Stewart and McDaniels(their two leading scorers and rebounders) and somehow improve? Doubtful.

I wouldn’t take it as far as @GoDawgs91 yet.

But it’s sad that we couldn’t hire a real AD. We easily could have hired someone way more qualified.

It’s scary how people actually think she’s done a great job. What has she done that an average AD could not have done? That’s the real question.

I’m not ready to mark Hopkins down yet. I like him a lot. We’ll see how the next few years go. But certainly with this season being an epic fail, Cohen has lost her only positive.

I just don’t have the faith that we have the leadership in place to move the football program forward with the coming changes in CFB.

That Syracuse was 19-13 entering the NCAA Tournament and had lost 5 of 6 heading into the NCAAs … they were 9-9 in conference. To get to the Final Four they beat a 7, 15, 11, and 1 seed … the 1 being Virginia who they had experience against in the ACC. To act like that 4-5 was a hideous indictment is missing the mark.

Regarding Jen, the interview with Caple yesterday in The Athletic was really telling. There were a number of hard truths in that article that make sense on the surface, but also highlight the challenges that UW faces going forward. The big question for her is whether or not she’s capable of being a leader and getting UW positioned to make the moves it likely needs to make going forward or whether she’ll be largely passive and have everything blow up in her face? She’s playing a dangerous game right now that is a short-term fix at best.
