It’s not working too well because competitors are selling recruits on Pete & now Kwat as the ones who were most responsible.
Recruits are being sold that UW development will drop off under Lake.
UW has to counteract this by emphasizing the development at DB (Jimmy was the coach) as well as Lake’s time coordinating the defense (2018-2019).
Furthermore, UW also needs videos of former players speaking highly of Lake specifically.
Lake & UW needs to rebrand the development as Jimmy’s not Pete’s. And to be fair, there has been a shitload at DB and on defense in general, which Lake coordinated for 2 years.
Another thing is Jimmy needs to raise his profile nationally.
A year ago I spoke about how he was nowhere to be found during the protests (other black coaches were being interviewed) nor during the off-and-on Pac-12 scheduling bullshit. Shaw was on ESPN a few times. Fox had on Cristo, Herm and Helton.
Meanwhile, you had media figures last year regurgitating what Christobal told them. That Oregon would be better than in 2019. Didn’t matter that Ballz was more clue’d into that team. Mario was selling them constantly.
He frequently does interviews with Josh Pate, a young 247 national guy, who has constantly sung his praises. Recently he commented “I promise you Oregon has the highest level of practice competition out west, if not the country.”
This from a guy who hasn’t visited any practices and only talks to one coach in the league.
You may think this shit is fluff but marketing and branding matters. We need to be hitting this and putting it in over drive especially after Pete left so our brand can get back to being top 3 or top 4 in the league. Right now its barely in the top half.
