Worst coach to lose by far. This program is in bad shape, certainly losing the off-season. Not taking advantage of the portal. Losing your best coach period to a lateral move. Keeping Gregory on staff. Recruiting will be worse in 2022.
Never saw this coming either
That would suck if true. I thought Coach K would be a Dawg the rest of his coaching career. He’s a great coach and a great guy who humbly took a step back from play calling duties so Jimmy could climb the coaching latter at UW instead of elsewhere. That was an incredibly unselfish move by him and I’ll always appreciate him for that. But sometimes being at one place for so long can just become stale no matter how much you like the people you work with. That might be the case with Coach K. There might also be some frustration on his part with how the Pac-12 and West Coast politics have handled Covid and he’s looking to go to a conference that cares more about playing football games while also probably getting a substantial raise. I would have no hard feelings for him and would wish him the best if that’s his choice.
Our head coach was wanted by Nick Saban to be his DC at Bama. He has a great mind for the game and knows which DC candidates would be worthy. UW is a prime DC job. Our defense is in good hands either way. This would not be some devastating loss like the drama queens in our fan base are making it out to be. Jimmy Lake could call the plays himself and our defense would still be #1 in the Pac every year.
However, this definitely wouldn’t be a good look for Jimmy Lake and UW’s brand to lose our quality DC to dumpster fire Texas and Sark. That’s small time. I don’t care how much money Texas has to spend that’d be a bad look for UW if it happens.
I’m interested to know if Coach K is considering a counter-offer from UW or if he’s just looking to rejuvenate his passion for the game at a different school and he’s already made up his mind that he’s leaving no matter what.
Losing your best coach two years in a row is awful. Retaining bums for coaches is awful. Recruiting like shit. Terrible coaching hires. The Lake era is going to crash and burn. Jen too asleep to care or notice.
Lake might be able to pull a Helfrich and win next two years with Pete’s recruits but it’s no longer a matter of if he’ll crash and burn but instead a matter of when.
Honestly hope he’s a Helfrich instead of a Lambo who couldn’t win with stacked talent.
Whatever the excuses are it’s a horrible sign for the Lake era. Keep in mind Kwiatkowski is a guy who chose to step down as DC so we can keep Lake despite having a nationally ranked D.
So this is a very telling move if he does indeed leave. Also kiss whatever slim chance we had at JTT goodbye.
Can’t stress enough how back to back years UW will have lost their most important coach on staff.
How does Jen Cohen still have a job?!! Worst men’s and Women’s basketball in history. Inherited a great football program and has started the process of destroying it. Useless AD!
Texas offered $2M or $2.5M and probably told him he doesnt have to recruit.
You can’t say no to that.

You’re overreacting. This team is set up to dominate most, if not all of their games next season. Jimmy will look like one of the hottest new head coaches in the country and the recruits will come. If PK is gone then the defensive staff needs to be overhauled and this might be the kick in the ass Jimmy needs to finally do it. Malloe to DC. New ILB coach (maybe John Timu?), and obviously a new OLB coach who can recruit (Cort Dennison?). I also don’t understand why we need two DB coaches. Either pick one of the current ones to be the guy by himself or fire both of them and hire somebody who is more proven and can recruit his ass off.
At the end of the day, I will only judge Jimmy Lake by the results I see on the field. All the responsibility to make the right moves is on him. He has all the control to fire and hire whoever he wants. I don’t care what he does as long as the team lives up to my expectations which is a dominant 2021 season, conference title, and NY6 bowl game. Anything less than that would be a failure.
Overreacting? We just lost our best coach on staff. Meanwhile our worst coaches are still employed.
Overreacting? We just lost three of the top four recruits in the state. Didn’t land one key recruit in a recruiting battle.
Overreacting? Once again we are striking out in the transfer portal department.

The irony is we had Pete K doing the recruiting in Texas to make grass roots there. So now he’ll have connections and can recruit easier there than normally for a west coast coach.
Example 120839852 of why wasting recruiting in Texas was stupid.

First of all, it’s not a done deal yet. Coaches make verbal agreements to take a position and then change their minds all the time. Kellen Moore verbally agreed to be Boise State’s next head coach and then changed his mind. PK is not gone until he signs a contract with Texas. He could be waiting for a counter-offer from UW. We don’t know.
Second of all, our best coach is our head coach. Losing Jimmy Lake to Alabama to be their DC or to USC to be their head coach would have been a catastrophic loss. He’s 10 years younger than PK. If we have to lose one of them, PK is the guy to lose.
Third of all, we have no idea how hard UW is recruiting transfer portal guys. It’s obvious they are trying to save as many scholarships as possible for the 2022 class. If we use a scholarship on a portal guy and he is only with the program for one year, we just lost the opportunity to sign another 2022 guy who would be here for 3-5 years.
I don’t see Lake as that valuable anymore. He can’t recruit and his style of coaching is outdated. He thinks we can win games 17-14 when in today’s college football(or even NFL) if you don’t have an elite offense you won’t win.
Facts are the defense is much better when PK is our DC than when Lake was too.

The facts are PK had better players to work with, including Jimmy Lake’s elite secondary players. Jimmy was DC for one season with the worst ILB’s UW has had since I’ve been a fan and still managed to finish with the #2 or #3 defense in the conference. PK was our DC this past season and our defense got ran through like a hot knife through butter and couldn’t get off the field on 3rd-down against Stanford to save their lives.
Does it make sense to say “Jimmy Lake can’t recruit” when his first recruiting cycle as a head coach was during a global pandemic? I don’t think so. He’s a first-time head coach replacing a hall of fame coach, had Spring football and all visits stripped away from him, and only had FOUR fucking games to try to show recruits the vision of what he’s building while breaking in a RS Freshman QB. Jesus Christ give him a fucking break. No UW head coach has ever had to deal with the shit he had to deal with in his first year and he still managed to field a team that showed a lot of promise for next season and beyond. Maybe wait until recruiting conditions are back to normal before judging his recruiting ability as a head coach.
There’s no positive spin here Ballz, no one wants your sanctimonious ass backwards rationale. This is substantially damaging to the program that is already reeling after year one. Cohen is definitely asleep at the wheel.
At some point, Covid has to stop being a fucking excuse for shit recruiting. EVERY school was under the same restrictions. We lost coach k to a lateral move, he left a sinking ship for the same job.
Remember when we all wanted to retain Wilcox at all costs and when that didn’t happen
there was this “who the hell is Pete Kwiatkowski?”
Let’s not fool ourselves into thinking UW Nation was in Coach K’s corner until he won.
I think Coach K stays. He’s a Boise guy…surrounded by other Boise guys. Texas is the
Dream Job that no one really seems to want.
If you lose to Oklahoma too much they want your head.
Would I take 1.5 million base salary with bonuses that could put me near 2 million in Seattle over
a Texas offer. Of course.
Brent Venables made 2.4 million this last season …but Clemson is routinely in the CFP.
I like Coach K but if I’m UW I’m not doing a 2 million dollar base.
For all you closet bigots..it’s wasn’t Jimmy’s fault we fell behind behind by 3 scores in back to
back games. That’s directly on the DC
He gone
Can confirm that Kwiatkowski is leaving for Texas. UW needs a new DC https://t.co/OlTlc51d56

A sinking ship goes 1-3 and gets blown out by Iowa State. A sinking ship pays a 20 mil buy out to get rid of a head coach and then desperately hires an alcoholic who can’t handle the stress of being a head coach without drinking himself into a stooper. UW is not a sinking ship until proven to be one based on how the team performs on the field and that’s not going to happen.
I look at this team and I see Otton, Kirkland, and Bowman all coming back for what they hope to be a full season of Husky football. I see a team that is loaded with talent and hungry to get back on top and take the program to the next level. I see belief in their new head coach and his vision and a true brotherhood of players who have completely bought in.
The full story of anything is never told in a snap shot tweet. PK taking the Texas job brings some legitimacy to him actually shopping his resume to Oregon and a head coach down there that he likely despises. If that’s the case, this could be Jimmy Lake telling PK to shop around his resume and find the best job he can because Jimmy doesn’t intend to bring him back next season. Jimmy had no problem vocalizing his displeasure with the performance of the defense every game besides the Arizona game and he might think he could have done a better job calling most of those games himself.
Jimmy would never actually fire PK because they’re friends. But if they had different opinions on play calling, he could have encouraged PK to shop his resume around and it was a mutual parting of ways. We don’t know. We know absolutely nothing right now besides PK is gone.
All we can do is let it play out and wait to get more details leaking out as to what actually happened and why he’s leaving. But people are bound to jump to conclusions with zero information beyond a headline so have at it.
I almost wish Jimmy Lake had taken the Bama DC job and then came back to UW after having wild success there so that our own retarded ass fan base would respect him more and give him a fair amount of time to prove himself as our head coach. I trust Jimmy until he gives me reason to stop trusting him. This defense is not going to fall off a cliff. It will only improve after a mostly mediocre four games in 2020.
Before our head coach became our head coach, he was one of the hottest DC candidates in the country. Stop with the irrational panic and overreactions. The defense is in good hands no matter what as long as Jimmy Lake is our head coach.
I’m sad to see Coach K go. He gave us 7 great years of work and dedication to the program. I wish him the best in his personal life but I’m not gonna lie, I hope Sark falls so hard off the wagon and is another epic failure at Texas. He doesn’t have a QB. His first season is going to be brutal and the pressure to win will be at a higher level than he’s ever experienced as a head coach. If you lose games at Texas, you’re going to start getting death threats in the mail. Fuck Sark. Fucking stumbling drunk.

Has everyone forgotten that Lake saved the ENTIRE 2019 class after Peterson retired? That’s gotta count for something.
Would like to get a sonics take here. Inside machinations. There are reports on the UT side that Kwat was tired of Jimmy meddling on D.
