Dylan Morris led what should have been two historic 21 point comebacks in back to back weeks as a RS Freshman. He’s the type of competitor at the QB position we’ve been waiting for to take the program to the next level and win big bowl games. He could be the next Baker Mayfield for fuck sake and yet our dumb ass fans think Sam Huard is going to beat him out without enrolling early and being here for Spring ball.
Sam is very talented but I don’t think he’s even going to beat out Ethan Garbers next season who is also very talented, the better athlete, and will have a huge head start learning and executing the offense.
We have good QBs people. We don’t need a true Freshman savior. If Sam were to start next season, he’d be average at best, we’d likely lose games because of his mistakes, and then we’d only get two years of good QB play from him as a Sophomore and Junior before he leaves for the NFL. In comparison, we could have 2-3 more years of good QB play from Morris, and then 2-3 years from Huard after that which would likely result in 5 years of quality QB play instead of 2. And that’s assuming Sam ever beats out Garbers which isn’t a guarantee. Garbers is 6’3 with a good arm and is a better runner than Sam.
And don’t give me the Trevor Lawrence beat out Kelly Bryant bullshit. First of all, Bryant was the starter early in the season. Dabo didn’t just hand the job to Lawrence just because Lawrence was more talented. Second of all, Bryant was struggling to beat teams like Boston College and Syracuse. Third of all, Bryant got knocked out cold and a concussion against Syracuse that led to Lawrence getting his shot. Plus, Trevor Lawrence is 6’5 220 and is a way better passer than Bryant. Sam is 6’1 200 and there isn’t a huge gap in talent between him and Morris. Sam’s deep ball is more consistent but Morris is lethal at everything else and has ice in his veins. Morris is also beginning to entrench himself as an emotional leader for the team and that’s not something Sam can compete with when he’s not even on the team yet. Sam Huard is 100% redshirting and likely won’t start until Morris leaves for the NFL. This is D-Mo’s team for at least the next two seasons so get used to it. The kid is a winner and deserves more respect than he’s getting right now.
