He will ride Petersen’s players for a couple years until his own inferior recruits take UW down.

I asked Jimmy Lake what he attributes the recent recruiting de-commitments to. He said this is the challenge of recruiting. "I attribute it to young high school kids. This is what happens."

Participant08/17/2021 at 1:12 pm #24879The level of arrogance combined with a complete lack of accountability is alarming. He comes off as a bitter dick in that statement. This program is in a serious freefall. And you get all these jabronis with the line “winning heals all,” which is complete nonsense. Lake having a successful season and recruiting a class that won’t even get close to top 30 will degrade this program for years to come.

Participant08/17/2021 at 1:48 pm #24880This is becoming Willingham 2.0 – decommits and players leaving and putrid recruiting.

Participant08/17/2021 at 2:13 pm #24881The optics couldn’t be worse and further amplified by his immature response. I can’t stand the lack of accountability though. He feels spurned like a jaded ex girlfriend and decides to air his dirty laundry when the media gives him the opportunity. What a joke.

Keymaster08/17/2021 at 6:48 pm #24884I don’t think Lake is going to last long.
I just have a feeling about it.
This could get ugly quickly if this is not a 10-3 team this year.

There are two questions:
1. How much damage is he going to do in the meantime?
2. Will we be the frog slowly boiling to death in the water? For example a 9-4 season and the Las Vegas Bowl or even 10-3 Holiday Bowl means an unsatisfying apex of the program with a steady decline thereafter. This team even with poor coaching is too talented not to do well enough to make it difficult to fire him. And then erode with poor recruiting and subpar coaching in key positions.

For as much talent as we supposedly have, last year we could not throw the ball nor stop the run and IMO w/ our wr and ilb rooms as they currently sit, are guilty until proven otherwise.
Everyone wants JL to succeed, but the red lights with him and this staff in regards to recruiting are flashing blindly, but am holding out hope that after today he is aware that changes must be made at the end of the season.

Participant08/17/2021 at 9:34 pm #24887Lake has no trouble with accountability. He calls out the WRs without hesitation.
It’s just HIS OWN accountability he struggles with.

Yeah, that’s not what accountability is. That’s throwing his players and former coaches under the bus for his own ineptitude. Taking ownership today doesn’t exist for most but Lake’s arrogance or “confidence” if that’s what you want to call it blinds it from his own inability. He is very slowly dragging this program into the ground. If we go 10-3, it will only perpetuate the sentiment that he’s fit for the job, much like Hopkins in his first few years with Romar recruits. “Who I work with and who I work for is very important to me. It’s hard to win football games and you want to be with good people [fighting for] the common cause.”

Participant08/22/2021 at 9:45 am #24896Reminder…K got trucked by Stanford and then chose to go work with Sark. Sark. Let that sink in. Sark.
Jimmy pretty much called him out after the Stanford game and I don’t think that sat well with him. But K can’t stop the run without a Vita/Gaines and doesn’t make adjustments until it’s too late. People forget he gave up a million points to Eastern, he isn’t this elite coach imo. It’s more that UW’s scheme catches teams (or used to) off guard. And Petersen made them co-DC. Why wouldn’t Petersen just let Jimmy go to Colorado or be a DC at Bama if he’s as bad as you guys think he is? Jimmy was DC of the 18 defense that was hung out to dry pretty much every game and still won a conference championship. K’s defenses bled out every year but 2016.

It’s going to get ugly this year.
Only bright side is it may force change sooner rather than later.

Don’t see how it doesn’t. This broke offense goes FAR FAR FAR FAR beyond missing wr’s. The OL gets no push, we can’t throw a ball to a wr on the outside beyond 7 yards, we can’t run anything besides blast/dive into the big pile up front (off tackle anyone), everything is first read checkdown, dump offs, middle middle midde, etc.
And Huard isn’t the answer yet at 6-1/190 lbs. He never sees the end of the season behind Coach Lake’s strength of the team OL. Morris got hit 8-10 times tonight BY Montana who only were 70 lbs lighter up front than we were.
There are defcon 5/code red fire alarms going off all over the program right now in both off field (recruiting) and on field play.
Plus add in a AD in the red with covid, and crowds the rest of the year where tonight’s 45-50k would be the average if not for Cougs/Zeros bringing 10k or more each and game day revenues are going to be in the dump, so any changes JL may want to make with coaching staff will be more tricky.
