When he got took the job, I was nervous. Anyone who knows Jimmy knows he’s cocky and stubborn, that’s a trait that could be good or bad depending on the coach. But then he had his press conference and I got excited. He talked about being aggressive on the field and on the recruiting trail and I thought his energy was needed to get this program back on track and get them back to competition with Oregon. But then he made his staff hires which made me scratch my head. Keeping KB and Bob, two guys who are worthless on the recruiting trail and are average coaches at best didn’t seem aggressive. Then he promoted Will Harris to DB coach, brought back Terrence, and promoted Cato from within, all safe moves. Then came the OC hire, after failing to bring in Kellen Moore, he hired an OC that had a laughable resume and someone who basically left for dead in the NFL. But I thought, maybe he knows something I don’t so give it time and see it play out.

Then recruiting came and it went like I expected which is why I started saying I was concerned about recruiting in April when all the so-called recruiting insiders kept making excuses and kept saying let it play out. All the holes I thought they had with this recruiting staff showed up and what was most disconcerting was the lack of a plan with recruiting. We missed on almost every DB, got dominated by Oregon, and struggled to recruit instate. But I thought, hey maybe the product on the field will be good enough to mask those flaws but nope. The offense ran tonight isn’t a pro-style offense because no team in the NFL is dumb enough to run this. This offensive style is outdated and easy to defend. Stacking the box, running the same play over and over, not stretching the field might work against Oregon State but it won’t work again for the good teams. I thought Jimmy could compete with Mario and Oregon but I was wrong. Even if he did have an epiphany and realize his mistakes, the budget wouldn’t allow him to fix it but sadly I don’t think he realizes his mistakes. What I saw tonight is a coach who will be competing with Stanford for third place. Hopefully, I’m wrong and overreacting but sadly I feel we are back in the 7-8 win level like under Steve Sarkisian while Oregon is back to competing for Championships under Mario as they did with Chip Kelly.

This did feel like the Sark era. Where UW won but I was disgusted cause we played so bad against a really bad team. Lake’s recruiting isn’t very good(this goes back last year when he was a DB’s coach with our DB’s).

What I saw today was a disgusting level of play and this program sadly looks to have peaked in the Pete era where ultimately we never won any games of value.

I’m so depressed. I’m afraid we are about to slide back into mediocrity, which is the worst place to be.

Chris Petersen and Jake Browning lost their first game as head coach and QB against BOISE STATE. This time UW WON the game. They now have more information on the guys they have, who can play and who can’t. What they need to work on. A lot of RS Freshman and True Freshman got their first significant playing time last night. Nothing but upside from here on out for those guys. Plus, it’s not an excuse, but everything we’ve heard from Fall camp says we lost our starting QB Thomson before the first game was even played and rumor is he’s done for the season. Morris would have been the back up and he still looked good so Thomson must be even better. It wasn’t pretty. But one ugly win doesn’t mean UW is sinking back to mediocrity. It’s actually an improvement compared to the way the Petersen era started.

Petersen’s first game as Husky head coach was a win against Hawaii. We won ugly and Doogs like you said “hey it’s a road win and he found a way to win on the road” then that team went 8-6 and next year went 7-6.

Offense looked great if it was 1986. Cramming it down OSU’s shit defense out of the I formation will not work going forward. LB’s and Dline are god awful. Molden should’ve joint Levi and Tyron and opted out. God forbid he gets hurt playing this meaningless season on a shitty team and with a head coach who’s in over his head.

None of what you guys says matters. The QB is everything. Your team goes as far as the QB can take you.

The game last night was the smart thing to do. We say Russell Wilson get the same treatment.

1. I just need you to be efficient and don’t turn the ball over.
2. We need to have a strong running game
3. Defense that keeps the score low

If Special Teams doesn’t botch a routine punt and the placekicker doesn’t miss a chip shot those two plays alone turn it into a 30-14 game. Just a couple of plays to clean up and you win comfortably.

Dylan Morris was actually pretty good and the offense still sucked.

Could also say if the referees didn’t job Beavis on multiple calls (garbage PI early, roughing the punter and 2 god awful spots) then the game goes their way. Those special teams blunders happened can’t take them away.

Jimmy is putting a whole new philosophy in on the offensive side of the ball. Step one of that process went well which was run the ball with physicality. Step two is play action off of it. They haven’t gotten to step two yet. It’s a process. Let’s see how it plays out.

UW was going to kill everyone when they had Levi O, Tryon, and Paama on the team and Tuli and Latu were healthy. The personnel starting on the D-line has drastically changed for the worse. If they get Tuli and Latu back that will give them a much needed boost but they still won’t be anywhere close to as good as they could have been with all of those guys rotating in. Things change. Our D-line depth has been cut in half and now our twos and threes are the starters and it sucks.

Damn that sucks really bad. Any idea why?

The defense will be hard to watch going forward. They need to get Bandes and Tuitele going but mistakes will be made by both of them. We now have zero depth at OLB. It’s ZTP, Bowman, and then two true Freshman. It’s just not good enough. Too many JV players who we need to play Varsity now because of the pandemic and injuries. Run defense and pass rush are going to be a struggle. This team is middle of the Pac without those guys and the two opt-outs. Any wins that this team can get no matter who the opponent is should be celebrated because the deck has really been stacked against them.

I may be the only one. But I was not a fan with Jimmy’s end of the game decision on 4th in short to kick the field goal to go up 6 opposed to sealing the game with a first down. A first down would have basically ended the game. If you don’t get it then osu can tie with a fg or win with a TD. By kicking the fg we gave them the ball back with plenty of time and with only a 6 point lead a osu td would of beat us. Just another thing that didn’t seem “aggressive”.

And to Sonics point. Jimmy lake has been saying all the right things but none of his actions so far have backed them up. My only hope at this point was that we had an ultra vanilla and shorted playbook vs. osu because jimmy felt it would be better to unleash the full playbook on a more “worthy opponent” (after seeing wsu run all over osu a week before). Hopefully this was also why we have so many young guys rotating in and the scripted rb rotation. We will know a lot more after next Saturday.
