Alphonso Tuputala has been getting pointed out by non-doogman media as a guy who looks good and is making plays. If someone is going to supplant Sirmon, it will likely be him. But it’s not going to happen in just five Spring practices. I suggest dublife.net for free practice reports that are really good and detailed.
I love how Jimmy has brought way more live action to practices. It’s easy to look good on defense when you’re just tagging off guys. It’s completely different to actually have to make the tackle when it’s live. The cream rises to the top the most during live action.
Would love to add Palaie to that competition at WIL. With that being said, we won the league and went to the playoffs with Psalm Wooching and Connor O’Brien starting for us at OLB. Our coaches don’t need a perfect starting lineup to win the shitty ass Pac-12. They would have easily won the Covid championship against USC with Sirmon at ILB if they had been able to play the game.

2016 also had 270 pound true Freshman Nick Harris starting for them at RG.
They had Ross. 2021 team has likely All-American Cade Otton.
Eddie is better than Keishawn and could be better than 2016 Azeem, we’ll see. But yes, 2016 with both Azeem ans Keishawn healthy was way better than Eddie and Sirmon.
Yes, 2016 was better at DT.
But 2021 is better at OLB and OL and more talented and deeper at RB and TE.
The emergence of Dom Hampton and Kyler Gordon, as well as the addition of Bookie and a pass rush that should be good, gives the 2021 secondary a chance to be special.
The point is, if Sirmon remains the starter, UW can still easily win the conference. I’m not saying they will be better than the 2016 team. They don’t need to be that good to win the Pac-12.
Also the obvious, Dylan Morris doesn’t shit himself under pressure and can make accurate throws on 3rd down to WR’s who aren’t wide open like Ross and Pettis were.

That’s got to be at least some part of what’s going on. If you’re going to recruit talented guys with tons of offers you better be willing to “manage” that talent and get those guys on the field whether they know the playbook 100% or not.
If its racial bias, it seems to be working much better for Sirmon than it did for Osborne. I don’t think the coaches are going to hurt themselves and the team by playing a guy that’s worse over his race. Some type of seniority or “experience” factor, though, I think they’ve shown that with the receivers already.

Uhh…that “massively undersized ILB” was Burr Kirven. He led the nation in tackles. I’d take him any day over Sirmon.
I have seen two practices and I will say I thought Sirmon looked very improved, especially in the 11 on 11 drills. His reads and the timing to make those reads seemed dramatically better, even if it was just in practice. He seemed more patient in the sense that he didn’t run through the first hole in the line only to be 5 yards behind a RB running the other direction. He was reading the line and did a good job helping seel the edge when a RB tried to bounce outside.
It may be like 2018 in that we cant lose Ulo like we couldnt lose BBK.
