Read the comments. Not a good look for a fan base in such a tense time for the country and racial relations as a whole.

black lives matter and should be cherished and protected, systemic inequalities should be eradicated. BLM the organization can eat a dick.

I don’t touch politics with a 10 foot pole and don’t plan on it now either, but at least two recruits I saw on Twitter (neither being recruited by UW) mentioned it with a negative connotation. This is a HUGE deal to recruits and regardless of anyone’s stance on the matter I’m glad most of our fans Are smart enough to keep it off team twitter posts and stuff like that. ND fans, not so much.

Participant08/26/2020 at 3:15 pm #19461That is a good point. For the most part I have seen mostly encouraging posts by UW fans on recruits twitter feeds, or in response to socially conscious messages.
Those two recruits should equally be impressed that the UND football page took such a bold stance. There was no “whitewash” to their statement at all. But yeah, potentially playing for a fan base that doesn’t support your call for justice would be disheartening.

It’s not an “organization”. It’s a rallying cry and a social movement. That is all. There are no BLM leaders. Literally anybody of any “race” can organize a BLM protest in their community. There are no headquarters. It’s not the NAACP or the Black Panther Party. It’s lack of organization is smart because there is no “head of the snake” like there was during the Civil Rights movement that some racist extremist or government agent pretending to be a citizen can assassinate.
If you agree that Black lives matter, then you are with the movement. I don’t agree with de-funding the police or any violent speech aimed at the police either. That shit is not BLM. That is extra shit on top of BLM that is irrational and extremist. I have love and tremendous respect for the good cops out there. If we want the police to be better at their jobs we need them to be trained better which costs money and we need them to not feel hated by the communities they serve. We also need the job of being a cop to be more in demand, not less in demand. When it’s less in demand, that’s how the scumbags get hired in the first place because not enough good, decent people are applying for those jobs. Nobody wants to go to work and be judged and hated all day because of the uniform they’re wearing.

Participant08/29/2020 at 10:21 am #19478I was surprised that Bryce Young went to Alabama.
When you’re young the South isn’t always a cultural fit for West Coast kids
and I’m always surprised when they send their boys.My best friend was from Terre Haute Indiana and he told me when he went back to
visit family his cousins would tell him “lets go hop in the truck and go beat up some
n****ers”My buddy’s father was an Indiana Police officer before the military and he told me 2 years ago
they had a bridge separating the black and white areas. A black was shot by the police and this
caused a lot of unrest and this lead to a proposed march across the bridge into the white area
of town. He said thank God they changed their minds because it was going to be like Selma.West coast kids aren’t used to overt racism they’re used to liberal racism.
