Keymaster11/15/2020 at 12:15 am #20557Oregon’s the best right now. 2 through 6/7 might not be that different.

Participant11/15/2020 at 1:04 am #20562I was surprised at how good Wazzu was looking today. I think they might be higher up the list.

I’d still rank ASU and USC ahead of Oregon. Oregon barely beat Stanford’s back up QB and were in a very tight battle with WSU and their true Freshman QB for 3 and a half quarters. I don’t see a significant difference between any of these teams. Anybody can beat anybody IMO. The best team might be the team that still hasn’t played yet.

I hate Oregon but saying they barely beat Stanford when they won by 21 points is some Doogish shit.

Participant11/15/2020 at 8:28 am #20584Stanford missed four field goals against Oregon. If you watched the game, it was way more evenly matched than the final score indicated and Stanford just lost to Colorado as well. They might be the worst team in the conference.

Participant11/15/2020 at 8:44 am #20585I haven’t seen enough to really rank the teams. It’s obvious that the teams with returning QB with starting experience have more of the playbook available let alone confidence.
Let’s be real here. OSU’s offense scored 14pts and had no chunk plays aside from Special Teams. This from a team coming off an embarrassing loss the week before.
Jimmy Lake did a Pete Carroll move. He knew he could win, running the football and bringing Morris alone slowly. Morris now in one game has taken more game snaps for UW than any other QB on the squad. His confidence is important.
What we learned
The OL can run block. Their size was evident in the early push on the lines. Pass blocking was decent as well. OSU got edge pressure early but as the game wore on they contained it and I didn’t see a lot of missed assignments.
Dylan Morris
I like his game ..he’s just wet behind the ears. The batted passes are a symptom of being too predictable in the windup and he’s signaling what side of the field he’s looking to throw to from the first snap. He’s got to get comfortable with keeping his body neutral until he’s ready to lock on and throw. I said a similar thing with Tyler Shough and his slow windup that will cost him INT and he’s thrown a couple already.
Running Backs
Love our stable. I’m still not sure Kamari should be starting. He’s large but he’s always lacked the ability to get his pads low and drive but he catches well and straight line speed is good. Cam Davis looked good. I couldn’t believe Wattenberg again screwed up one of his best runs with a penalty. Watty owes him a gift.
Secondary
Best in the Pac-12. Was rooting for KTJR to get that INT. It’ll come.
OLB
Disappointed that we didn’t call Latu’s name. ZTF is exactly the blossoming player that we saw look dangerous against Boise St. Bowman was solid. OLB lost contain a few times getting too fancy. Gotta clean that up. No Smalls sighting.
DL
I wanted to see a bit more stout behavior on the line. Losing Levi really hurt here and it showed.
ILB
I don’t think Sirmon is starting in a couple of games. Eddie Fa’sho just constantly delivers and we need to find another backer that matches to make this defense spark. I didn’t see any other ILB making plays. This has to change.
Special Teams
$%^&*( Bob Gregory. That is all
We saw a team that is loaded with talent and some guys (ZTF) making their move. If Morris can develop quickly we have a chance to beat everyone on the schedule

Participant11/15/2020 at 9:35 am #20586Sean McGrew is the best RB we have right now based on that first game. I understand wanting a more physical RB in the game to wear down opposing defenses, but not when those guys are missing holes and leaving meat on the bone. McGrew always finds and takes whatever is available. He’d easily be a 100 yard rusher if they would just feed him 20+ times a game.
Both Smalls and Cooper McDonald played at OLB. Smalls gave up contain on the edge a couple times for big runs. No Bralen Trice at all so he’s probably a bust.
No Levi O, Joe Tryon, Tuli Letuligasenoa, Laiatu Latu, Sama Paama, Ali Gaye, and Mosiah Nasili-Liu. When you lay it out like that, our once promising D-line has been decimated by early opt outs, injuries, and attrition. We would have a Bama level D-line right now if those guys were all on the team. It’s fucking depressing.
Then you’ve got Bob Gregory and his shit recruiting and shit development killing our ILB position group. Who has he developed? BBK and Ulofoshio both came into the program with natural instincts and high football IQ’s. They looked promising as Freshman. Jackson Sirmon has been here for three years and looked completely lost last night. I agree, they have to find somebody else to play next to Ulofoshio. There’s no way Sirmon is the best we have. Bob always plays the wrong players. There’s a good chance walk-on Drew Fowler is better than Sirmon based on Bob’s history.
I agree, the O-line can run block. They ran it down the Beavs throats versus a stacked box most of the game. I would have liked to see them finish the game though. They had a chance to pound it in to go up two scores late in the 4th quarter and got stuffed. Dominant O-lines finish games. Also, The two guards looked like they were having issues in pass pro. Something to keep an eye on as the passing game expands in future games.
