No, but anyone other than Monken wasnt gonna do it for me. I have expensive tastes, ya know.
The only thing gettin it up for me with Kellen Moore is his use of analytics but that is so far from what this team needs. It would be like dumping your Girlfriend just to be in a long term relationship with her little sister. I will allow it if the situations are right but 99% of the time that’s skanlezz and nazty. And this time in particular, it is EXTRA FOUL AND INEXCUSABLE.
I would cast my vote for anyone who has anything to do with the Saints offense because of Joe Brady, anyone tied to the Memphis because AirWolf won’t stop RPO stalking them and telling me about how much they use role play, I mean play action.
Once someone told me Helfrich’s name, unlike every other Husky fan, I got fucking stoked. Does he have red flags? Again, anyone not named Todd Monken, Chip Long, or Bruce Arians (we could use some Kangol) would be someone I would have to pretend to like for awhile before I actually liked them. I’d even be asking if Peyton Manning would be able to bring proper spacing to our offense or would he just make it too fucking complicated.
Did he have Marcus Mariota? Sure but he was the guy who identified him first when Sark’s dumbass didn’t think he was good enough. Is he coming in on a high note? Good god no, but Jim Nagy was the CEO and Play caller of that offense and it sounds like Helfrich was a vital piece in utilizing Tarik Cohen (lol). Is he an Oregon man who I could see being way too soft for what we need right now in a time when we need to be recruiting the living shit out of this planet? Sure, but any man who could make it out of the shit hole that is Coos Bay (that’s where my grandma is from), is a savage and prolly a lil crazy.
The most important thing he brings is a word I’ve been missing a lot. Identity. Ahhhhhh say it with me. I-DEN-TITTY. Don’t, I mean Doesn’t it sound beautiful?
Chip Kelly & Scott Frost as OC’s at Oregon we’re ranked S&P+ on offense ranked: 13, 5, 3, 1.
After Helfrich retooled they ranked:
4, 1, 1, 6. He had Vernon Adams, Jeff Lockie, and True Freshman Justin Herbert for those last two for all of you “Marcus carried him” stans out there. Hell, he was prolly Justin Herbert’s best QB coach and offensive mind in his career at Oregon.
What I love about Helfrich is that he bring a Run heavy offense and a passing game that brings a word you will never here under Pete’s offense… ready? It’s callled SPACING. Spacing is really important if you want to have a Run game that can open up Play action and attack downfield. I’d have to think Helfrich would be an RPO guy but if I’m a RB like Cam Davis, I am praying for Helfrich. At the same time, I don’t think he had a lot of WR’s, made Bralon Addison look like Jerry Rice, and UDUB is about to be absolutely stacked there.
Here is prolly my favorite play for the Helfrich offense era. He uses a lot of motion at the snap, something that Kellen Moore was lauded for by the hardworking Chris Fetters. Oregon has been POUNDING Big Ol Michigan state with Mariota running, and Royce Freeman being a straight up man. On 2nd & 5 it’s time to take a shot against a good defense.

Michigan State lines up in a Cover 2 shell but they are tired of getting ran on that the DE at the bottom of your screen, is going to get his ass off the ball, the backers are going to blitz, and one safety is going to roll down to the curl seam and Abe a Hook defender while the safety at the top of the screen will roll over and take the middle deep third. Helfrich guesses right BUT goes for the snap count to be delayed which delays the fly motion as well. Since the Top CB doesn’t run with the fly motion Marcus knows it’s not man. That fly guy almost hits the ball but on the mesh point you can see the safety at the bottom of the screen HAS TO fill that hole opened by the offsides up-field DE which lets Marcus trust his indicator that this is no-man Cover 3 and the seams are HOT.
