So in conclusion, the COVID 19 pandemic is a pretty historic event by default considering it’s a pandemic. But if you stack up the COVID 19 pandemic next to the Spanish Flu of 1918, it looses in every major metric imaginable. Deaths, Death rate, infections, infection rate, you name it, COVID 19 loses in all of them. With that being said, you have to acknowledge that if something like the Spanish Flu happened today, the numbers would be way down due to improved technology. So what you have to do is you can’t look at the actual diseases and compare the statistics. You must compare their impact on society when they existed. If you asked people in the past that schools and businesses would be shut down for the year due to a virus wreaking havoc in 2020, they might not have believed it. While COVID pales in comparison to the Spanish Flu in terms of raw statistics, I would argue that it is equally as significant a historical event as the Spanish Flu of 1918
