I think this is like the 200th time I’ve read about the Big Ten officially choosing to postpone without seeing an announcement from the Big Ten.
There is a lot of push back coming from players and coaches now who want to play. This is bullshit and it’s not about player safety. It’s about one conference being run by mostly libtards who don’t want the liability of a college football player dying from Rona on their hands which is very unlikely, but possible because sometimes people die.
There is a simple solution which is a liability waiver signed by all players and coaches who want to play. These players already have the opportunity to opt out of playing this season with zero penalty to their eligibility. That’s as far as it needs to go. The rest of them are legal adults old enough to fight for this country and old enough to make their own motherfucking decisions about their health and safety. So if you don’t want to play, don’t fucking play. But don’t take away the opportunity to play from consenting adults. That is called raping their time, their dreams, and their pursuit of happiness.
I just read an article about Nebraska being open to exploring their options and still playing regardless of what the BIG-10 does. Ohio State feels the same way. This could get ugly real quick with a bunch of schools saying fuck that and going independent which is the smart thing to do. Nobody knows how long COVID is going to last. Nobody. This shit could be just as bad if not worse in 2021 and 2022. We don’t know. College football cannot survive going multiple seasons in a row not playing. They just need to fucking play because this shit isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Nobody can wave a fucking magic wand and get rid of this virus by the Spring or even next Fall. This is about the Pac 12 and the B1G thinking (knowing) they’re superior to the schools in the other 3 power 5’s and being above college football when the players start talking about liability and revenue sharing long term.
Once that happened at least the Pac 12 was DONE for 2020. Cycle as many upperclassmen out as possible and hope it’s easy to play 2021 with no unity movement.
The players knew they overplayed their hand after this weekend, which is why you saw them tweeting late last night.
It’s probably too little too late for fall football. Spring will most likely happen because COVID fatigue and political fatigue will cause people to tune out public health officials no matter how what is happening.
My guess is Power 5 as a whole begrudgingly keeps pushing this back a month or two at a time until spring.

They are being tested on a weekly basis which regular people are not and every school has an empty campus where they can isolate their athletes in a bubble. The risk of getting this virus and dying from it for regular people is super low. It’s even lower for these athletes who are more protected than the rest of us.
And protests are not the cause of the virus spreading. King county cases per week are very much under control compared to other places around the country and we’ve obviously had just as much if not more protesting than anywhere in the country which is only further proof that this virus doesn’t spread well in an open air, outdoor environment. You know, kind of like playing football outside. The issue is the universities are concerned about liability should some of these players come down with complications from Covid.
Yeah we all know nearly 100% of the players that get it will survive but some could have lung and heart issues and try and hold universities financially responsible over the long run.
The irony in the liability issue is if they were employees they would fall under workers compensation laws and would severely limit the university’s liability.

Just make them sign a waiver and let them fucking play football. They have one life to live and a very short time span relative to the rest of their lives to play this sport.
How about the liability of costing them a year of their NFL careers? Huh? You force them to push back their entry into the NFL draft another year, that’s one year taken away from the length of their pro careers which could be worth millions of dollars just for one individual. Years from now you could realistically see players suing these schools claiming they only had a five-year NFL career when they should have had a six-year NFL career and these schools are liable for their loss of NFL earning potential.

I wonder how many players will opt out for the spring. If I had a kid graded between the 1-4 rounds I’m probably sitting out and getting ready for the draft players like Molden, Tryon, Levi they are interviewing agents right now the agents will give them a front and send them to training facility to be 100% for evaluations.

Yes, I agree with you but my point is the number of cases in regular society is not at all relevant to these athletes and the risk they face because these athletes can be completely isolated from regular society. Therefore, any stats about the spread of the virus in the general public ARE NOT RELEVANT to college football players.
Each university has everything they need to set up a bubble just like the NBA is doing. They have an empty campus. They have enough empty dorm rooms for every athlete to get their own individual dorm. They have the money to pay the expenses of their athletes breaking their leasing agreements at their apartment complexes and moving back onto campus if they don’t live on campus already. They have campus security to monitor where these athletes are and make sure none of them leave campus or bring outsiders onto campus. Anybody caught doing so should be suspended a game. I think having blue balls for a couple months is a fine trade off for getting to play football games. They have access to as much testing and medical facilities as they need on campus. They have all the food they need. All their meetings can be virtual. All of their necessary workout equipment has already been moved outdoors. All of their practices are obviously outdoors. What the fuck am I missing here? Putting them in a bubble and playing the season in the Fall is perfectly doable.

You and I could walk around that campus and in 5 minutes come up with multiple instances of potential negligence by the Univ. Door handles not being cleaned after being opened. Keyboards not being wiped down after use, people using utensils and sitting them on the table, etc etc etc.
There are lawyers allready coming up with arguments why entites with money should pay damages to people who catch the virus, and no way will those places take a risk a jury agrees and awards them some outlandish judgement, and will settle out of court.
