Participant11/16/2021 at 2:34 pm #25065surprised you guys were as high on Wilcox as you were….nothing screams mediocrity and lack of buzz/poor optics for program more than him as a candidate.

Participant11/17/2021 at 6:00 am #25068Wilcox = settling
Floor 6 games a year, ceiling 9 games (and that is with cakewalk OOC and EVERYTHING going right)

Participant11/17/2021 at 11:12 am #25070Thanks for the podcast – I have been skeptical about Stoops being interested but if he is that would be exciting. I forgot he coached in the XFl last year. So maybe, but I have not seen anything to see what has perked his interest and why UW over USC?
Aranda and Matt Campbell are very good prospective coaches but Aranda has USC’s and LSU’s attention. Campbell I think turned down NFL interest last year. I don’t think they are realistic.
Bill O’Brien reminds me a lot of Sark and not in a good way. I don’t like head coaches calling the offensive plays as they don’t stay on top of the entire game managment. Secondly, there seems to character issues as he leaving the Texans was muddy.
Wilcox would be better at UW and be better than some people are projecting but he would really need a good OC and a really good recruiting staff.
Pending a Stoops surprize I think DeBoer is solid with lots of upside.

Participant11/17/2021 at 3:02 pm #25071This was a pretty good podcast. At the end of the podcast there were some weird audio issues where Chest and Tequila were both talking at the same time an unaware the other was talking.

Participant11/18/2021 at 7:01 pm #25074UW is a top 25 job, but I would sadly argue it’s towards the bottom of the 25.
There are approximately 65 P5 programs so that’s puts us in the top 40%. Back out the P5 schools that focus on BB, don’t care about sports, have academic/geographical limitations etc and we could eliminate 15 of the 65 schools easily. Now were stuck squarely in the middle.
Anyone think UW is a better job than Oregon? ESPN did their article over the summer and gave us the nod by I thought a extremely narrow margin. I would give them the edge b/c from the President on down they simply care more about winning, and will spend/have the resources (Nike) to do everything possible to get there.

Participant11/18/2021 at 7:12 pm #25075So Alpha personality Big Game Bob Stoops who had the best record in all of CFB during his 18 years at OU, won 1 NC, but by 2016 had become apparent even he couldn’t recruit enough diff. makers to compete with the Big 4 is going to sidestep LSU/SC/Florida/Any other Mount Rushmore job to come here b/c he doesn’t want to coach in the fishbowl and have more of a work/life balance?
If that doesn’t sound like one foot out the door (before he’s even got here)/not fully committed (just like Pete’s final burn our year here) I don’t know what does.
Please no Wilcox. Pac-12 record speaks for itself and only 4 of those wins (2 against up amazingly) came against teams with winning records in the conf.
His absolute tip top ceiling is 10 wins and that means everything on planet earth went right for us, including having 3 cupcake OOC games.
He reminds me of the varsity version of Satake at BYU who if the Covid 2020 play any D2/D3 games you could find season doesn’t happen, was on his way to getting fired from there.
