Honestly, kudos to him for getting out before it was too late. And glad he gets to do something he finds meaning in.

Participant04/24/2021 at 12:11 pm #24325He set the table for a run of teams that will be Rose Bowl contenders and had the self awareness to know when it was time to step away for the good of the program (and himself). We should all be grateful.

You could say DJ quit on UW, and people have. I don’t begrudge CP for stepping down, was glad for the run we had with him. I still remember getting a text at 5 something in the morning from my old Haggett Hall roommate that we hired Petersen, and later the sheer pleasure of putting up 70 in Autzen on one amazing performance by a couple guys, including Browning Ross and Pettis. I have little doubt CP put his heart and soul into his years on Montlake and I don’t buy into the “you have to deliver the RB trophy” litmus test. I 110% wanted to win at least one of those biggest games, but I won’t reflect on the CP years through the lens of no RB trophy and he quit.

I had the distinct sense it was going to be a great day, in spite of my general pessimism. Couldn’t rally any friends to go though and my wife had a major medical issue the night prior which had us in the ER most of the night. It was extremely refreshing to have some real fun catching the game the next day, even just in my basement. I did have to chuckle a bit when one of my best friends who is a Duck fan (I grew up in Oregon, not my fault!) said he lost some respect for Petersen running up the score. LOL! The comebacks were pretty easy considering what the Ducks regularly did to far inferior opponents in Chip’s days. Not to mention I don’t think we threw a pass in the fourth quarter.

I do remember mid 3rd someone took Gaskin down really late out of bounds on Husky Sideline and got the 15 yard penalty. Not sure if next play we ran fly sweep to Ross but believe so,mI very much got the feeling CP felt that if you want to keep Hammer down on your end, we will do the same on ours. IMO he was pissed.

Participant04/26/2021 at 9:06 pm #24362I had tickets with my brother in law, but we were in the middle of Oregon fans, in the corner of the endzone off to the side of the UW ticket allocation underneath the scoreboard. We were getting a fair amount of crap from the 0 fans before the game but by the end of the 1st quarter they were quiet, and they almost all left by halftime

Participant04/27/2021 at 8:54 pm #24366Yeah…Pete destroyed two really, really shitty Oregon teams. He never lost to OSU and Wazzu. Late Boise Pete, just beating up on weak teams and losing to decent to good teams.
He gets credit for that 2018 Apple Cup but I didn’t think he had a signature win other than that. Stanford 2016 was a great experience as a husky alum/fan but that Stanford team was meh and everyone knows that deep down.
His losses to Stanford were just crushing.
He was a B coach at the power 5 level. We’ll see if he at least had the decency to leave UW in good shape this coming year. Most of these guys played for him as frosh in 2019.

Participant04/28/2021 at 8:16 am #24367You can’t be serious. 2016 Stanford that went 10-3 and finished #12 in the AP and Coaches poll was meh? You’ve gotta be kidding me. That 2016 UW team beat a 7-2 (in conference, 8-5 overall) WSU and 10-4 (#17) Colorado teams. The combined scores of those three games in 2016 was 130-33.
Do you know what Chris Peterson’s winning percentage was? 67%
Do you know what Don James’ winning percentage was? 70%The critique about not winning a NY6 game are fair, as are the unfathomable stumbles to Cal, Stanford and ASU over the years. But to say Pete was a “B” coach belies your lack of perspective.
