Discuss the front page article and the outlook for WRs.
This is the first of my position previews.

Thank you Chest, great article!
I agree that we will probably start Puka Nacua, Ty Jones and Terrell Bynum at WR. Of the three, I view Ty Jones is the one with the most tenuous grasp of starter snaps. Looking forward to having an offense where the young most talented players can actually challenge for playing time.
Great article.
I’m excited about the WR depth because if a team doesn’t have WR depth there’s a penalty for calling go routes in WR fatigue. Much like pitch counts ..if you’re heading into the 4th quarter and you’ve only targeted the same WR ..he’s tired.
If you’re deep at WR and can play a majority of snaps with a guy capable of ripping the top off the defense it creates a lot more pressure on the opposing defense.
We should have used Jordan Chin more last year. He had the lone long TD in the Oregon game. ASU must have seen this and other Oregon games and exploited the fact that Oregon gambles and often leaves a single player back for deep coverage.
We have the bodies to throw downfield. Donovan has nothing to lose. He hasn’t coached a college game in 4 years. It’s house money right now. Air it out.
Great article. Curious how Donovan has utilized the WRs (and any position group you’re going to preview) in his past schemes. Could’ve changed completely over the years, but still might be interesting to get a glimpse of to see how/if things have changed.
Lots of talent, let the best man win. Lots of blue chippers. See Emeka, once Sam Huard comes onto campus next year you can see why you want to be a Husky. 7 of 10 blue chippers and 8 if you count Chin who is a 4 star on espn only.

I watched some YouTube videos of Vanderbilt when they had Jordan Matthews and I liked the way they utilized him. He was their largest WR and they made sure to feed him. All I could think about what “we have 3 Jordan Matthews sized kids at WR, Donovan should be a kid in a candy store”
It’s so nice to finally hear true Freshman at WR are making noise in practice against the vets. It’s really hard to come to UW as a WR and immediately make plays against this secondary. It’s finally happening because the 2020 WR class is the first WR class in a while that matches the talent level of some of Jimmy Lake’s previous DB classes. No disrespect to previous WR classes before that, but it’s obvious the 2020 WR class is different. Jimmy Lake is going to play the best guys and Donovan clearly doesn’t give a fuck who’s done what in the past. It’s a clean slate for everybody and that competition should drive them to a higher level of performance than we’ve seen the last few years. I’m excited to see what they do this season.
I had heard Puka was hurt and a DM post seems to have confirmed this.
The main weakness IMO is we don’t really have a boundary X. Ty Jones is big but hasn’t wanted to play physical. Puka I thought could be this guy, but odds are he probably doesn’t play in the 7 game season. Spiker has the potential, but he’s hurt also.
Perhaps one of the true freshman can play this role.
Puka and Spiker hurt and out for the season already? What dm post or is it for subscribers only?
Puka has been at practice, just not going full speed. I think someone saw him in pads a day or two ago. I think they are just being really careful with his foot. Spiker I’m not sure about. I’ve heard it’s his hamstring. Don’t panic about Puka yet. Spiker, not so sure.

Spiker is our highest rated WR.
For fuck sake, stop with the fucking ratings bullshit already. Your posts are dumbing down the rest of the board. Spiker isn’t anywhere close to being UW’s best or most talented receiver. His high school rating means nothing at this point.
If you can’t get your head around that, this board ain’t for you. I’m sick of getting into star rating debates with retards who are like “this guys was rated higher than this guy in high school so he should be playing over him” or “this guy is our highest rated receiver so it’s a big deal if he can’t play”. Do you even follow the fucking team or are you just another low-life Oregon fan trolling? Even when healthy, Spiker isn’t going to be a starter and might not even be in the two-deeps. We’ve had walk-on beat out 4-star guys for starting jobs. It’s about competition when they get here. Some guys prove to have been overrated and others prove to have been underrated. Their high school star rating is irrelevant once they get here so shut the fuck up about that shit.

If we are relying on a bunch of 3 star guys and walk-ons who can beat out our most talented 4 star guys and up, then we’re in some serious trouble. There’s nothing “retarded” about thinking that a 4 star guy most definitely should be finding a way to get on the 2 deep. You can’t beat a team like Clemson with a bunch of 3 stars when they are literally stacked with 4 and 5 star guys all over their roster.

Yeah tell Clemson that 2-star slot WR Renfro who helped them win a national championship shouldn’t have been playing. The point is, the most talented guys rise to the top through competition and prove the rankings wrong all the time. Those 3-stars and walk-ons who earn starting jobs over 4-star guys are usually going to be NFL players. Eddie Ulo is arguably the most talented ILB on the roster. Being a 3-star walk-on doesn’t mean a guy is less talented. The players prove who is more talented when they get here.
There are not many Joe Tryon, Eddie or Myles Braynt who are rated 3 stars and under.
There are many more 4 or 5 star players who succeed more and are drafted higher.
That is why you need a 50/50 ratio at least. Otherwise its WSU and losing 7 games per year or more and if you get lucky have one good year once every 5 years.
First time I have been called an Oregon fan. Yikes.
Ugh. And to think we could’ve had ANOTHER 4-star receiver and a better blue chip ratio had we just managed to keep Colson Yankoff around.

Don’t worry, Yankoff actually is still counting towards our blue chip ratio, since the BCR looks only at the last 4 recruiting classes and completely ignores transfers in it out as well as medical retirements and other attrition. It’s a shitty metric that is widely misused for things it isn’t meant to be used for

Phew. Thanks for clarifying.

Yessir. Someone needs to ask how Taj Davis is doing.
