Spring game and Spring football cancelled over this bullshit? Are you fucking kidding me? These are young and healthy athletes isolated from their families who aren’t traveling anywhere. All of the at-risk old and sick people are already self-isolating themselves from the rest of the population so why do these kids have to put their lives on hold when not only are they not at risk, but the chances of them spreading the virus to people who are at risk is slim to none? It’s fucking bullshit.
Let me make myself clear. I’m not disagreeing with doctors and scientists who are projecting a couple million at-risk Americans are going to die from this over the next 12-18 months. I have no reason to disagree with people far more educated on the topic of viruses than me. My point is, disease and death are a natural part of nature and human beings are not above that. No matter how unnatural we’ve made the world we live in, we are still a part of nature and nature has a way of culling the herd with diseases. The old and sick must die so the next generations can survive and prosper. It’s the circle of life. It’s sad and it’s tragic, especially when it hits close to home and happens to someone we love, but we as humans are not above it.
This is coming from someone with three remaining grandparents who are all sick with other diseases and dying. If any of them contract COVID-19 they would almost certainly pass away from it in combination with the diseases they already have. That’s what happens. Old and sick people die. We can be responsible and use reasonable precautions like self-isolation from our grandparents, but we can’t panic and let it cripple our lives and our economy just because old and sick people dying is likely going to occur in a wave in this instance instead of slowly and gradually over time as it usually does. It’s our own fault as a species for overpopulating the planet in the first place and now we’re seeing the consequences of that. But it’s no reason to fuck up young and healthy people’s lives, cost them their jobs, or put their lives on hold. Health is a personal responsibility. If you’re old and sick or have a weakened immune system for any reason, it’s your responsibility to stay home and be cautious while the rest of us live our lives.
