I’m not sure what factors went into that statistic but Utah and UCLA being ahead of UW makes me question the validity of it. Both schools are very lackadaisical when it comes to recruiting. Utah is usually dead last in the class rankings the majority of the cycle and then make a late push at a bunch of hidden gem guys they were keeping under wraps. Same strategy for UCLA. What I do know is UW finished the 2020 class with THREE times as many top-247 rated players as Oregon did so the actual results show UW being more efficient with the money they do spend.
I definitely think UW can vastly improve their marketing efforts and digital media stuff to get it to the level of the usual playoff contenders. Recruits get very little digital media access to our program. There’s not a lot of behind the scenes stuff or weekly vlogs being produced by UW like there are at a lot of other programs. Aaron Feld alone has put out more content than our marketing department has since he’s been at Oregon just using his fucking cell phone and Twitter account for fuck sake. Not saying I want our coaches acting like attention-seeking clowns but the program needs to push out more content. It’s not that hard. Marketing could be the difference between a long-shot recruit using one of his last few official visits to visit UW or another school with better marketing and a better brand. I think Petersen suppressed a lot of shit the marketing department wanted to do and now Jimmy is ramping it up which is good but so far, it’s still not enough to match our competitors. Some of these schools are basically producing reality TV shows around their programs and pumping out episodes on a weekly basis. It’s insane. You compare that to UW’s little 30-60 second workout videos and it’s like “what the fuck are we doing”? Our marketing is small time.
