I have to defer to some of you all that saw some practices. Sirmon has the 2nd strongest arm of the Jacobian QBs currently still enrolled. In the EWU game when he got some garbage time I thought he threw a nice out pass for what 20 yards. I’m no QB but his mechanics look decent and he’s a well built young man.
Dylan Morris is the kid I have no idea about because I haven’t even seen video of him beyond HS. With a new OC they’ll all be on a level playing field with regard to play book knowledge but players on their 3rd year in the system simply have an advantage over incoming frosh in understanding their teammates, Strength and Conditioning and just college life in general.
For me our season is determined by our OL play. If we can run the ball we can do it. We cannot put the pressure all on a first year starter at QB.
The rest of the conference is sleeping on us. Dude on Twitter picked us to finish 5th in the Pac-12. 5th! Behind ASU. They think that losing Eason is the big deal when it is not. Browning’s numbers were comparable and better (2016 for sure) than Eason. What made the difference was with no Gaskin we did not rush the ball effectively. Gas gave us 1200+ yards a season and Coleman would put in 400+ in support. If we have that production last season we don’t lose 5 games.
I think our next OC will be looking to leverage the talent at WR. Get them to open space and exploit matchups. Leverage RPO and gash teams in the run game and being be aggressive our WR need to be coached that they need to fight for the ball and let their talent win out. Control clock with the run game , leverage WR for chunk plays and put that Dawg Defense on people and there’s no way there’s 4 teams better than us in the Pac-12 next season.
