When I hear “pro-style offense” I think of a big-armed QB in an offense that wants to go vertical as much, or more, than horizontal. I like Thompson as a QB but I think his arm-strength limits some of what Donovan probably wants to do in terms of being aggressive and taking shots down the field. If they pick Thompson that’s fine but Donovan better be willing to adjust his scheme and be confident in his ability to get guys open via play-calling more so than he otherwise would have to with a guy like Sirmon who can go vertical and throw into tight windows.
I like Thompson’s tape but his strength looks to be his ability to hang in the pocket, go through his progressions and then extend plays with his feet when nothing is open. Honestly, he looks a lot like Jake Browning and we know how severely Browning limited our ability to attack downfield.
I think an improved offensive line and actually playing talent at WR will go a long ways towards giving Thompson the ability to be successful at UW.
