I hope he works out fabulously.
In the meantime, the perception of him has hurt us in recruiting.
We didnt even promote that he hired Joe Brady.
Not focusing on the Brady hire seems like a really weird thing to criticize UW for. I’m not sure how his/our staff’s conversations with recruits go, but I don’t think it’s going to resonate very well if UW’s social media team was heavily focused on “We just hired the guy who hired the guy who orchestrated LSU’s record-breaking offense five years before it happened”.
Brady went to the NFL for two years before coming back to college and tearing shit up. That’s pretty similar to what Donovan did, though Brady doesn’t have as lengthy of a resume as Donovan (failures included). Granted, Donovan’s stint was with the Jaguars and not the Saints, but one would think/hope that he learned a thing or two at the professional level, just like Brady evidently did. In interviews, Jimmy has continually referred to how much he learned in the NFL and the difference it can make when he’s asked about the Donovan hire. It remains to be seen if Donovan will have learned the same amount that Lake and Brady did in the NFL, and the only way we’re going to know is after a few games have been played.
