Five-stars are also a mixed bag. For every Kayvon T. there is a Canton Kaumatule, Thomas Tyner, or Kavario Middleton that flames out. Or they leave after three years just as they are getting good. Sewell is a great player, but he only played two years, and his freshman year he only played half the season. I’m sure it was nice to win the Outland trophy last year, and being a first round pick in the draft will give Oregon good publicity, but compare that to a guy like Nick Harris who was lightly recruited but gave everything to the Huskies for four years, and was drafted as well. Who leaves you with a better taste in your mouth?
Okay, still Sewell probably, but you get my point. Ultimately, I think it is how well a team scouts players that fit the program, rather than just how many stars they have.
