Before Joe Brady at LSU this season, I would ya e thought you were an idiot for for holding that opinion. Hiring anOC without play-calling experience? No thanks.
But after watching Brady mastermind the greatest offense in modern college football history, I’m buying what you’re selling.
“McCarthy likes OC Kellen Moore, I’m told. Nothing more firm than that, but it does seem like McCarthy is more than open to keeping him.”
If that happens, UW will probably end up with Helfrich, right? I hope Lake has at least reached out to guys like Fisch and Hall.
I’d actually prefer Helfrich to Moore.
My only downside with Helfrich as an OC is that it’s unclear about how much he has called plays. He didn’t in Chicago and many say Chip Kelly called the plays at Oregon. That being said he was the OC during a time where we couldn’t beat him. I’d be ok with “Give’em HELL Frich”
I may be in the minority on this, but I don’t worry that much about direct play-calling experience. Some OCs are absolutely fantastic at it, most are average, and a few are terrible. Far more important to me is the ability to design, teach, and install a scheme that makes sense, game-planning, and self-scouting.
