You can be disappointed with the class. That’s fine. I will be too if both Emeka and JTT don’t sign with UW. But Maurice Heims is 6’5 240 and has an NFL get off in high school while also being new to the sport. Nobody should give a fuck about him only playing JV because of a transfer rule. All that matters in recruiting is physical talent and he’s got all the physical talent we want at his position. The JV thing will be a nice story line for him during the NFL draft four years from now. “He only played JV football in high school and now he’s getting drafted in the 1st-round!”
Hope your right, but he could also just as easily follow Paama who wasn’t ready for everything coming over from Hawaii.
For every Heims or Ali Gaye there are a 100 guys who have the same story and are never heard from again.
Could not agree with you more that the most important thing we see out of this team is a mindset and mentality of we are here to own this conference, and because you are in our way, we are going to kick your ass b/c of it. I get a sense from Jimmy that he is going to coach with that chip on his shoulder and believe that will carry over to how the team plays. We will know alot more in 90 days.
I think Heims will be fine. He said one of the reasons he chose UW was because it reminded him so much of being home back in Germany. I don’t know the story behind Paama’s retirement but something shocking like that happening, especially with UW players is a rarity. One of the problems is we don’t lose enough guys from the roster who suck to make room for more talented guys in the next recruiting class. This coaching staff is too nice. They need to fucking cut people who just aren’t developing the way they had hoped. All the big boys do it. I don’t see Alabama ever taking recruiting classes smaller than 20 guys.
Alabama classes the past four years:
2017: 29
2018: 22
2019: 27
2020: 25
But apparently we don’t have room for Velltray Jefferson and the 2022 class is going to be just as small, if not smaller than this class unless they start trimming the fat from the roster like the big boys do. It’s about winning. I don’t care about some RS Senior bench warmer who contributes nothing to the program on game days, getting his degree from UW or getting a great internship or job after college because of UW connections. Those things can still be accomplished if those guys aren’t on the football team. All I care about is winning and championships. We’ll see if Jimmy feels the same way because the way Petersen was running the program just isn’t going to get it done. Nice guys finish last in this business. You don’t have to be a cheater to win but you can’t be too soft to cut players who suck to make room for the next recruiting class.
