Let’s not exaggerate. oregon has a good team this year, but Wisconsin was better. The badgers just pissed it away with four turnovers.
While this is factual in a very specific way, it also doesn’t quite capture the whole thing.
We should have beaten Oregon too. Both this year and last year. We lost both games because we shriveled up when it was winning time. Just like Wisconsin did.
Is that just coincidence? It could be, I suppose.
Or it could be emblematic of the kind of attitude and athletes that Cristobal is installing in Eugene. Don’t get me wrong, the guy seems like a moron and makes some terrible in-game coaching decisions. But he also has big time Alpha energy, which attracts players with the same, and he values talent.
I’m watching Iowa vs USC on recording right now. Iowa goes up 28-14 a few minutes before halftime. The camera pans to the USC bench and it’s a collection of the most disinterested faces ever. I agree with you. Mario isn’t a great tactician as a coach but his team this year played from the expectation that they can win every game and thus should win. This is a culture that is instilled over time.
